It is easy to blame everything on Covid.
To be sure, Covid plays a role in the current fencing shortage both directly and indirectly.
All of a sudden, everyone was home. People looked around their homes and their yards and began to tackle some of those projects that had slipped by for too long. Additionally, with everyone home at the same time, all the time – many people felt they wanted more privacy.
It turns out that fences became very popular, very suddenly!
The sudden increase in demand while fence manufacturers across the country were forced to shut down or scale back operations for a while was a deadly combination for the supply of fencing.
Once fence companies realized there was an impending shortage of fencing, many of them (including us) snatched up as much fencing material as possible. This “run” on the available fencing supply was too much for the industry to handle at a time of decreased production due to Covid.
Fast forward to today … and we have a fencing shortage in Wyoming and across the entire United States.
