If you’re thinking about having a new fence installed on your property then you’ll want to make sure that you’re getting the best possible fence for your investment. A high-quality fence is what you’re after, so you want to know more about the materials used to construct your fence, and how to maintain it in the years to come. We’re here to tell you exactly what we use to install our wood fences. Read on to learn exactly why experience, quality materials, and superior techniques will give you a well-built wood fence.

What Makes Our Wood Fences So Strong?

We want your Wyoming wood fence to last so we make sure that we meet or exceed the industry guidelines for the installation of wood fences. Installation techniques are really important, but equally as vital is using the best materials. Here’s a look at why our fences are the strongest in Wyoming.

Cedar Wood for Durability and Appearance

We use cedar for all of our wood fences because it’s extremely durable and holds up well to outdoor weather conditions. A cedar fence will generally outlast fences made from softer, less durable wood, like pine, due to its abundance of natural oils which helps it to deteriorate more slowly.  We do recommend that you protect your Wyoming wood fence with a water-resistant stain to prolong its life even further, and if you really like the silvery appearance cedar takes on as it weathers, you can choose a clear, transparent stain for your fence.

Another feature that’s unique to cedar is its natural insect repellent. Many people use cedar wood chips to keep moths out of their clothing or pests out of their planting beds. More important to your fence, though, is cedar’s natural resistance to termites who do not like the taste of cedar oil.

Ring Shank Galvanized Nails for Strong Hold

We use ring shank galvanized nails to install our Wyoming wood fences. These nails are stainless steel so they won’t rust and the ring shank will allow them to hold extraordinarily well. Because a nail is metal and bleeding is inevitable even with a galvanized coating, we countersink the nail into the picket in an attempt to direct the bleed into the center of the picket versus down the face.

If you would prefer screws, we are willing to use them on your fence; however, it will increase the cost of your fence due to the increased time required during installation. Screws are also more likely to bleed than nails even if they are galvanized so it might affect the aesthetics of the fence.

Quality Pigment Stain Will Increase the Life of Your Wyoming Wood Fence

Now that you have an expertly installed cedar wood fence, you’ll want to prolong the beauty of your investment. We recommend that you seal your fence by purchasing a penetrating sealant and applying it according to its directions or by hiring a contractor to apply it for you.

We recommend Wood Defender Fence Stain and Seal which is an oil-based stain that is easy to apply with a sprayer and won’t run, drip, or need back brushing. By using a quality sealant, it will protect your fence for up to 6 years, depending on the product you choose. We sell Wood Defender Stain and Seal in clear and several transparent colors so you’ll be sure to find the color to match your aesthetic.

Do I Need a Permit for My Wood Fence?

Generally, getting a permit to install your fence is not required for most towns in Wyoming. Wyoming does not require permits for any type of fence 6ft tall or less in the backyard, or 4ft or less in the front yard. As fencing experts in Casper, WY, and the surrounding area, we will consult with you about your specific fencing needs and guide you through the permitting process if you do happen to need a permit for your fence.

Do You Offer a Warranty on Wood Fences?

SWi Fence and Gate will always warranty our workmanship for one full year after the installation of all of our fences. Many of the materials we use have their own manufacturer warranties as well. However, as wood is a natural material and guaranteed to break down when not routinely maintained, we do not offer a warranty on the wood material itself. Be sure to ask our friendly staff for additional information if you have questions about all of our products and processes.
